Warm-up Step 3 - “Core Breath & Exhalation”
Exercise 1 - The “Basic Spirometer” Exercise
Exercise 2 - The “Slow Lift” Exercise
Exercise 3 - The “Slow Descent” Exercise
Exercise 5 - The ”Stabilizer” Exercise
Exercise 6 - The ”Yo-Yo” Exercise
Warm-up Step 1 - “Introduction to Deep Core Breathing”
In this exercise you will be learning how to feel air inhaling to your core.
Warm-up Step 2 - “Core Breath & Release”
In this exercise you will work on inhaling to your core and exhaling from your core with the “h” sound, free from tension. This is the method by which you will control your breath support with your instrument.
Warm-up Step 3 - “Core Breath & Exhalation”
In this exercise you will become more in tune with your body, and understand how to inhale to and exhale from your core.
Exercise 1 - The “Basic Spirometer” Exercise
In this exercise you learn to exhale with consistent air and breath support similarly at all resistance levels. You will also be learning to conceptualize breath support through the synthesis of feeling, listening, and watching. This exercise also makes you think about how to relate resistance levels on the spirometer to dynamic levels on your instrument.
Exercise 2 - The “Slow Lift” Exercise
This exercise promotes and strengthens your ability to begin phrases in your music with controlled and soft entrances, as well as using subtle crescendi. Here, you are training to gain control of the start of breath support.
Exercise 3 - The “Slow Descent” Exercise
In this exercise you develop the skill of controlling air so that you can more easily make decrescendos in your phrases and so that you can taper the ends of your notes.
Exercise 5 - The “Stabilizer” Exercise
This exercise challenges you to improve by working on more advanced levels of breath support and breath control.
Exercise 6 - The ”Yo-Yo” Exercise
This is yet another exercise that challenges you by working on more advanced levels of breath support and breath control.
